BBQ and GCA Regular Meeting Thursday

This month we’re having our regular meeting at the hangars with a BBQ, soft drinks, other summer foods. Jarrett Berke will brief us on ground controlled approaches. If the weather doesn’t behave, we shall retreat to our normal location at Granite Air Center.

182 Goes In For Upgrade

This weekend, the 182 will be ferried to Green Mountain Aviation in Middlebury, Vermont, for it’s avionics upgrade. We’re very excited about this. The 182 is a great flying platform, but the panel has left a lot to be desired and has had problems on a regular basis. So, we’re fixing it! The plane will be down about a month while work is completed. In the mean time, we have our 172 available to all club members.

182 Upgrade

The club membership  voted to upgrade our 182RG and bring it into the 21st century. It’s a great aircraft but the panel has frustrated many of us with various quirks. We have arranged with Green Mountain Avionincs in Middlebury, Vermont, to do the upgrade. Here’s a mockup of the new panel.

182 Panel Great

The upgrade includes:

  • Aspen Pro 1000 with Synthetic Vision and AOA
  • New Garmin Audio Panel
  • New Garmin GTN Touch 650 Navigator
  • New Garmin Nav/Com #2 Radio
  • New Garmin GTX 345 Mode S ADSB-Compliant Transponder

New Rates

The club membership has voted in new rates for 2017. The new rates reward members who fly two or more hours per month with lower total flying cost the more hours flown.  Rate changes will take effect March 1st.

Here’s the breakdown:

Monthly Dues (Regular) $150
Monthly Dues (Student) $75
Cessna 172 Wet Rate per hour tach $108
Cessna 182 Wet Rate (pre-upgrade) per hour tach $134
Cessna 182 Wet Rate (after panel upgrade) per hour Tach $161

Wings & Wheels

Join us September 24th, 10a-3p, for Wings and Wheels, a celebration of aviation and cars, at the Lebanon Municipal Airport. The event takes place at the Executive Hangars (South Hangars). The club will have its planes out and we will be there to talk to visitors about the club, flying and learning to fly. For more information on the event visit www.wingsandwheelsnh.com.

August News

It’s almost the club’s second birthday. We are doing well! Our membership is slowly growing.  We’re at 29, currently, and we have a couple more members applying. We’ve had several milestones the past few months, including solos, private pilot certificates, a couple instrument ratings and a commercial rating. The weather has been great for flying this summer and we’re looking forward to a  good fall. We skipped our August meeting, but will resume in September, on the 15th.

First Fly Out!

We are finally having our first Fly Out…ever!

Destination: Rockland, Maine (KRKD)
Date: June 18 (weather alternate, June 19th)
Purpose: Airplanes, cars and food.
RSVP: Matt – at=uvflyingclub.org.

The Owls Head Transportation Musuem, right on the field of KRKD, has antique airshows and auto shows throughout the summer and has an extensive collection of transporation-related displays. On the weekend of June 18 and 19 they will host the All-American Auto Meet which promises to be fun. Details here: http://owlshead.org/events/detail/all-american-auto-meet. The museum fee is $18 (exhibits & events), free for active or retired milirary. We plan to fly out early in the morning to catch the WWI airshow and fly back in the afternoon.

The plan is to take two or three planes. Sam Lutz and Ethan Winberry are committed to going in a club plane as well as myself in my Mooney.

Both club planes will be blocked out for these dates until a few days before the fly out. If you would like to join, please email me directly (matt@uvflyingclub.org) with plane and seat preference. There are six seats open in the 172 & 182 and one in the Mooney. Flight time there is about 1:10 (in the 172, a bit less in 182 and Mooney). We plan to depart at 8amsharp, weather permitting, as the air shows are in the morning. If fog keeps us grounded, we’ll depart when we can. The museum is open 10a-5p. We’ll grab lunch in Rockland while there and fly back in the afternoon/evening.

December 2015 Meeting

We held our December meeting on the 10th. Matt Bucy presented statistics about the club’s last year of operation. All is going well, we are financially stable. Both planes are running well and members are flying them as much as expected. We discussed upgrading the 182 and consensus was that a 430W GPS and HSI should be installed and if possible an engine monitor to make precise leaning possible. Estimates will be sought and the membership will be approached in January to determine how to finance. Installing these two items will make the 172 and 182 panels very close to same.
